Product description: Lord Shiva, the supreme God of Hinduism is one of the Trimurti, along with Lord Vishnu, the preserver and protector of the universe and Lord Brahma, the creator. Lord Shiva is the principal deity of Shaivism. He is also known as Mahadeva, and commonly called as the destroyer. Shiva as a destroyer ends the cycle of time which in turn begins a new Creation. Thus Lord Shiva is known as a creator, protector, and destroyer. Shiva in his dance form as Nataraja, and the dance ananda tandava clearly explains the cycle of creation and destruction. Shiva's dance has two cycles - the Lasya (the gentle form of dance), associated with the creation of the world, and the Tandava (the vigorous form of dance), associated with the destruction. Goddess Shakthi also known as Uma, Sivagami, Parvathi is the wife of Lord Shiva is worshipped as the universal mother of divine strength, power and creation. Shakti is the creative power and energy of Shiva, the mother of all beings who protects life and destroys all evil forces. In Indian classical dance, the qualities of masculine, dynamic dance is called Tandava, and of the feminine beautiful graceful dance is called Lasya. Tandava is the dance of Shiva as the father of the universe and Lasya, the dance of Shakti as the Divine Mother of the Universe.
The Chola style bronze sculpture portrays Lord Shiva and Shakthi dancing on a pedestal; the upper two hands of Shiva are holding an axe and a prancing deer, and his lower right hand shows Abhaya mudra while the left hand is positioned with his palm facing inwards. The left leg of Shiva is rested on a serpent. The beautiful Goddess Shakthi has her right leg resting on a lotus in a graceful dance pose. The statue has chola style jewelries and clothing, and has all the iconographical attributes of Shiva and Shakthi. The deer in Shiva's hand represents that he is the protector of animal kingdom, and the jumping deer also represents an unsettled mind. Shiva holding the deer symbolizes keeping the mind under control. The face of Shiva and Shakthi has a peaceful, smiling expression, and the portrayal of their dance in a Chola art style is truly breathtaking. Certainly an awe-inspiring "one of a kind statue" made using the lost-wax method; an expert craftsmanship by our South Indian bronze artisan.
